Carers Centre Tower Hamlets Academy:
Improving and enriching the lives of unpaid carers through educational support and learning.
Welcome to the Carers Academy – a unique service provided by The Carers Centre Tower Hamlets. We provide information, inspiration and support for current and former carers.
We know from personal experience how difficult it is to take time for ourselves when in the midst of looking after someone else, especially those with complex needs. AND how easy it is to feel and become socially isolated. All our courses are free, and we aim to provide learning at your own pace.
Whether you want to improve your manual handling and first aid skills, train to care for a specific illness, update your technical skills, or increase your financial management and English-language knowledge, we should have something for you.
The Academy also offers a range of opportunities to connect with others and reduce some of the stresses of daily life through health and well-being courses.
Whether you’re new to caring, extremely experienced or somewhere in between, The Carers Academy is a place to learn, to connect and to become part of a caring community.
The only qualification you need to join the Academy is to be a current or former carer.
To attend all you need to do is register with us. Make an appointment now
If you’d like come to any of these courses and you are a carer registered with us please apply here:

Shared Reading for Carers
ZOOMThe group is made up of a trained Reader Leader, who reads a great novel, short story, or poem aloud. We stop and talk about what we have read. There is no need for group members to read aloud or speak – it’s fine to just listen. The idea is to create a space where people feel at ease.
Reading the literature aloud in real-time, means that everyone is involved in a shared, live experience. Group members are encouraged by the Reader Leader to respond personally, sharing feelings, thoughts and memories provoked by the reading.
Everyone experiences the text in their own way, but the literature provides a shared language that can help us to understand ourselves – and others – better.
