How is everyone feeling today at the beginning of another week? I don’t know about you but the year seems to be flying by. I won’t actually say it but it will soon be C*****mas….
It seems the weather is really kicking in this week ready for the Autumn, so summer is finally over but there is always an upside and for me and it is Strictly, Bake Off and Drag Race UK. These programmes will be my go to during the darker nights and I wondered what are yours? Do you have a favourite? I suspect there are times when you are to busy to catch a show or programme but at least in these modern times you have catch up..
Whatever you watch or do to relax and take time for yourself then make sure you do, it is important that you get some mental respite, time for yourself and most importantly some fun and light hearted escapism. Keep an eye for the upcoming October newsletter and calendar of activities as this can help towards today’s message.

Did You Know we have a weekly Shared Reading Group?
How does it work?
A group of carers, one of them a trained Reader Leader, reads a great novel, short story or poem aloud. We stop and talk about what we have read. There is no need for carers to read aloud or speak – it’s fine to just listen. The idea is to create a space where people feel at ease.
Reading the literature aloud in real-time, means that everyone is involved in a shared, live experience. Carers are encouraged by the Reader Leader to respond personally, sharing feelings, thoughts and memories provoked by the reading.
Everyone experiences the text in their own way, but the literature provides a shared language that can help us to understand ourselves – and others – better.
It can even help with your ESOL needs.

Powerful stories are flooding in which are helping us shape our campaign and provide much needed data to evidence our asks.
The Tower Hamlet Individual Placement Support (IPS) provides advice, information and support for people with mental health issues living in Tower Hamlet. We offer one to one support from a specialist employment advisor, who will help individuals to develop their career plan and access the job of their choice. Our Employment Specialists provide a free, individualised and confidential support service focused on supporting individuals with all Employment related needs
IPS is a programme that originated in the States in the 1990s, supporting people with mental health conditions. Currently, there’s no available data on how the IPS model impacts the substance misuse client group. In 2016, Dame Carol Black recommended the adoption of the IPS model in the UK
IPS is a work-only intervention, with paid employment being the sole outcome. Participants into sustained employment has led to a reduction in their substance misuse treatment and re-offending.
The service is for: Any person 18+, accessing GP or Mental health Treatment for substance misuse support in Tower Hamlet and Seeking employment support

Our Next Carers Mental Health Programme with Talking Therapies is
Self-Care does not equal neglecting others – Carers & Mental Health Programme – with Talking Therapies – Monday 4th October 2pm to 3.15pm – Carers Centre & Zoom
Self-care is key when in a caring role. It is common that there are feelings of guilt associated with self-care and we may feel we are neglecting others. This workshop will emphasize the importance of self-care and look specifically at common reactions everyone may have received from their cared-for person when taking time out for self-care.

|To mark World Mental Health Day 2021, Thrive LDN and the Mayor of London’s Peer Outreach Team are hosting a series of live music performances, workshops and panel discussions.
Under the theme Never Alone LDN, join a range of activities that take a look at how young Londoners can come together to overcome the challenges we face, and reflect on the experiences of young Londoners during the pandemic.
Four free-to-attend events are being held at east London’s Rich Mix. All events are being filmed, and turned into a highlights film to be played at Rich Mix on World Mental Health Day, as well as broadcast via our website and YouTube channel.

Young people aged 12 to 15 to be offered a COVID-19 vaccine
All young people aged 12 to 15 will now be offered one dose of the Pfizer vaccine, following advice from the four UK Chief Medical Officers. They will be delivered through school settings with extra sessions elsewhere for those not in mainstream schools.
Locally, we are working closely with young people, schools and community groups to provide advice and information and ensure people have the opportunity to make an informed decision about vaccinating their 12 to 15 year olds. More information will be communicated directly to families about the school Covid-19 vaccination offer.
Unpaid carers can still access FREE PPE supplies. If you would like to receive PPE, Please contact the Carers Centre on 0207 790 1765 or Ayeda directly.
