RealTower Hamlets

REAL has been helping disabled and non-disabled people in Tower Hamlets work together to share information, provide support and make change happen for over twenty years. They have an independent advocacy service that can help you have your voice heard, uphold your rights and access services.

The City and East London Bereavement Service (CELBS) – provides specialist bereavement services to Tower Hamlets residents over 18 years old. The service has many years of experience in supporting individuals and couples who are grieving for reasons ranging from still birth to cancer and sudden traumatic death.

Birdie Box

Birdie Box: for People with Dementia and Memory Loss

Birdie Box commits to improving the lives of individuals with memory loss, their caregivers, and their loved ones.

Carers in Tower Hamlets can utilise the many useful resources available to them through this unique Carers Platform which is free of charge, developed by Carers UK.

Resources include:

  • Forums where carers can discuss common problems to help find solutions
  • E-learning course to help carers to be more effective
  • Resources on topics including Health and Wellbeing, Financial planning, Help if you are working and caring after work
  • Information on the Jointly app which helps carers organise the care of someone by creating a circle of care around them
  • Upfront guiding tool – useful for newer carers who can get help through the maze of benefits and regulation.

How to access?

  1. First download the brochure mentioned at the top of this page. There is a special access code on it for Tower Hamlets Carers. Make a note of it. You’ll need it when you create an account.
  2. Go to the special Digital Carers Resources website at http://www.carersdigital.org  and create an account.
  3. Enter the access code DGTL7196

Free Digital Resources from Carers UK

The Open University is the UK’s largest academic institution and a world pioneer in distance learning.

Their free learning platform, OpenLearn, breaks barriers to education by reaching millions of learners around the world, providing educational resources and inviting all to sample courses that our registered students take – for free!

Their free courses cover a range of subjects and professional competencies, with some designed specifically for carers. The courses allow learners of all backgrounds and levels of ability to demonstrate interest in a subject, evidence of professional development or a commitment to studies. A free Open University digital badge is awarded for completing all course sections and passing rigorous assessments, providing evidence of professional development or demonstrating a commitment to studies.
