Young Adult Carers

Do you live in Tower Hamlets? Are you aged 16 to 25 and living with or caring for someone with a long term illness, disability or substance use issue? If so, Tower Hamlets Young Adult Carers Project could be for you!

Often, when a young person is looking after a parent, they have to take responsibility for younger brothers and sisters too.

Caring for someone at a young age can have a big impact on mental health and life chances, with young adult carers suffering from a range of issues like depression and anxiety, self-harm, eating disorders, poor educational attainment, social isolation and unemployment.

What we offer:

  • An informal weekly social group for carers to meet and make friends – food and drink provided!
  • A personal support worker to help with any issues you may have like mental health, education, employment, family relationships or anything else!
  • Youth centred counselling for carers aged 16 – 25 years
  • Support for those experiencing domestic abuse
  • Benefits advice from our qualified and experienced advisors
  • Small grants up to £300
  • Advocacy (somebody to argue your case when you are in a difficult situation)
  • Fun monthly day trips chosen by group members like a trip to a safari park, go-karting and axe throwing
  • Short breaks like a weekend away
