Carers’ Forum Meetings
Our Carers’ Forum takes place on a monthly basis. Each month we have presentations or consultations from partners, carers get to have their say on services and the Carers Centre Wellbeing Academy listens to requests from carers and where possible, includes them in upcoming activities.
September Carers Forum – summary
At CCTH, we believe the best services are created with carers, not for carers. Every forum discussion, suggestion and shared experience helps us shape activities and support that are meaningful, relevant and truly co-produced. When carers speak, we listen, and real change can happen.
Veteran Carers – developing a policy for former carers
In the last forum meeting, we introduced a discussion about developing a Former Carers Policy and explored how CCTH might continue to support people when their caring role comes to an end. During that conversation, one carer suggested that rather than using the term former carer, we should consider the term Veteran Carer. The idea resonated strongly with those present, recognising that the knowledge, experience, resilience and compassion developed through caring never simply disappear when a caring role ends.
This is a wonderful example of how positive dialogue can produce meaningful results. A single suggestion sparked a conversation that could influence how we describe and support carers in the future. It demonstrates the power of co-production and why your voice matters.
Discussion points for the October Carers Forum
At October’s forum, we will be continuing the discussion around Veteran Carers and we want to hear from more carers. We’d love you to think about the following questions before joining us:
- What does the term Veteran Carer mean to you?
- What challenges or opportunities arise when a caring role ends?
- What support may still be needed?
- How can CCTH continue to recognise, value and support people after their caring journey changes?
- What services, activities or opportunities would be beneficial?
