Respite for Carers in Summer
July 30th, 2025
Time to Pause, Reflect and Recharge
Summer can feel overwhelming for unpaid carers. With routines disrupted, services limited, and the ongoing emotional and physical toll of caring, many carers find themselves running on empty. That’s why it’s more important than ever for carers to take a break —even a few hours of calm can make a big difference.
The Carers Centre Tower Hamlets is here to help unpaid carers access moments of peace, rest, and connection this summer.
Start with our weekly ‘Moments of Respite‘ Drop-In every Tuesday, 11:00–13:00, at Breathing Space, London Buddhist Centre. This is a welcoming, non-religious space where carers can enjoy tea, coffee, and quiet conversation with other carers. At 11:45, a gentle guided meditation helps restore calm before the group often heads for lunch at a local café. It’s a simple but powerful way to reset your week.
Looking for deeper rest? Join us for a Carers’ Retreat Day on Tuesday 19 August 2025, 10:30–16:00 at the same venue. Expect gentle yoga, mindfulness workshops, and a chance to reflect in peaceful surroundings. It’s free, and all carers are welcome — just contact us to reserve a space.
If you enjoy the day retreat, then you might want to reserve a place for the upcoming Three Night Retreat from 8-11 September. This is designed for carers, with a supportive community structure, great vegan food, inclusive for all carers, mindfulness and meditation. The respite you need for FREE.
For carers needing a longer break, don’t forget about the Carefree service. In partnership with hotels across the UK, Carefree offers short breaks for unpaid carers — all you pay is a small admin fee. It’s a chance to truly step away and breathe.
