Mental Health Awareness Week 2026
May 12th, 2026
Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 takes place between 11 – 17 May.
This week-long campaign take places annually and it is intended to encourage people to talk openly about mental health, reduce stigma, and promote practical ways to support emotional wellbeing.
For carers, Mental Health Awareness Week is especially important because caring for another person can place significant emotional, physical, and financial pressure on daily life. Many carers support people with long-term illness, disability, dementia, addiction, or mental health conditions while also balancing work, family responsibilities, and their own wellbeing.
Due to their caring roles, many carers are at greater risk of:
- Stress and burnout
- Anxiety and depression
- Social isolation
- Sleep problems and exhaustion
- Feeling overlooked or unsupported
This year’s Mental Health Week’s theme is very pertinent to carers because it encourages people to ‘Take Action: for yourself, for someone else, for all of us, encouraging each one of us to take meaningful steps—big or small—to support mental health in our own lives and within our communities.
