Hello Everyone – Carers Forum – Wednesday 17th June – Have your say.

June 12th, 2026

Carers Forum is taking place this Wednesday 17th June

Your Voice Matters: Join Us This Wednesday

At Carers Centre Tower Hamlets, we know that carers often carry a lot—emotionally, physically, and practically. And sometimes, it can feel like you’re not being heard when it comes to the support you and your loved one need.

That’s why creating space for your voice is so important.

On Wednesday 17th June, we’re inviting you to join us for an open, honest session where you can listen, share, and ask questions about the issues that matter most to you and your caring role.

We’re pleased to be joined by Lucy from Adult Social Care, who visits us quarterly to respond directly to carers’ concerns about service provision. These sessions are a valuable opportunity to raise issues, get clarity, and feel part of the conversation rather than outside of it.

This month, the focus will be on carers’ respite.

Respite is recognised as a right under the Care Act 2014—a chance for carers to rest, recharge, and maintain their own wellbeing. However, we’ve been hearing from some carers that this isn’t always how it’s being applied in practice. Some have shared that respite is being tied to the needs of the person they care for, rather than recognised as their own right, which can lead to unexpected costs being passed on to their loved one.

We know how frustrating and confusing this can feel. This session is a real opportunity to raise those concerns directly, ask questions, and better understand your rights.

Lucy will be joined by Sarah Murphy, Lead Social Worker, who can help provide further insight into how decisions are made, and Jamie Bird from LBTH Commissioning, who will be speaking about the Carers Partnership Board—and how carers can have a stronger voice in shaping services going forward.

Whether you have a specific question, a concern you’ve been holding onto, or simply want to listen and learn, this session is for you.

We would really love you to join us in person if you can—there’s something powerful about being in the room together, sharing experiences and feeling less alone. But we also know that caring responsibilities can make that difficult, so there is the option to join via Zoom https://us02web.zoom.us/j/7339417664?omn=83442705946 if that works better for you.

This is your space.
Your experience matters.
Your voice deserves to be heard.

Mile End project restarts

Our transition project at Mile End Leisure Centre will reopen on 1st May. From then on, AB instructor Drew will be at the Mile End gym every Friday at 11am, supporting our members to take the next important steps towards independent exercise by using a mainstream gym.

This project aims to break down the barriers to exercising outside of our own space, helping people to access and enjoy larger, mainstream facilities with confidence. It also eases pressure on our gym and allows us to support more people currently on the waiting list.

If you’d like to give it a try, just speak to one of us
