Universal credit is financial support to help ease the cost of living. Carers in the UK may be eligible for Universal Credit if you’re on a low income, out of work or you cannot work. It is paid monthly.
How much is Universal Credit?
The Universal Credit allowance amount varies based on your circumstances, but it could include extra payments for carers on top of standard Universal Credit.
How to claim Universal Credit
To claim Universal Credit, you can complete your application online through the official government portal. Make sure you have details of your income, housing, and caring responsibilities. The UK Universal Credit system is designed as a digital-first service.
If you’re unable to apply online due to accessibility or other barriers, there are limited alternative routes that include telephone. Our advisors in the Carers Centre are able to provide more advice on how you can make your application.
