Apply for money
You have probably heard about Universal Credit (paid monthly) and how it is replacing a lot of other benefits, tax credits and allowances. Are you on a low income or out of work? Do you need help with your living costs? Are you over 18 (some 16 and 17 year olds can get Universal Credit)? Are you under your pension qualifying age? You can only have limited savings. Universal Credit may be the right benefit for you.
What The Carers Centre Tower Hamlets does: Universal Credit
We have a wealth of experience in giving benefit advice and obtaining resources for carers and the person they care for. The welfare benefits advisor is ready to help you access many types of benefits/allowances which you or the person you look after could be entitled to. They can give you the information or help you fill in forms and make the application.
Our benefits advice and support service is for you the carer, and the cared for person, looking at the ‘household income’. We support the carer and the cared for person to apply for the benefits they are entitled to.
How to claim
You need to apply for Universal Credit online. You have to apply as a couple if you and your partner live together. You do not need to be married.
You can apply at www.gov.uk/universal-credit
